Queen of Chance

The challenge of this project was to design a mockup of a book cover and representative spreads that visually embodied the work and philosophy of a chosen designer. The goal was not only to present information clearly, but to integrate a cohesive concept that reflects the designer’s style in a contemporary way.
I chose April Greiman, a pioneer of digital design and a figure often credited with bringing New Wave typography into the digital age. Her work is known for layering, vibrant colors, experimental type, and the integration of technology into visual communication. To honor her legacy while making it relevant today, I developed a book concept that balanced Greiman’s bold visual energy with modern clarity. Clean lines, structured grids, and refined color palettes were combined with experimental type treatments and layered imagery, creating a dialogue between her playful experimentation and a contemporary minimalist sensibility.

This solution is effective because it communicates Greiman’s influence without simply replicating her style. Instead, it interprets her principles—experimentation, digital layering, and typographic play—through a modern lens. The spreads guide the reader through her work with clarity, while the visual language pays tribute to her role in expanding what graphic design could be. The result is a book that feels both authentic to Greiman’s spirit and fresh to today’s design audience.
